Marketing Project
Purpose: When students wants to work in Graphic Design, it is important for them to realize that many times they do not get to chose the project they would like to work on. In advertising for example, the graphic artist is simply given the product to work with; a good artist will be able to create ads and designs for products they may never actually use. The artist will also have to learn to work in groups or teams, to be able to delegate work as well as take instructions from other members of the group. This project will introduce both concepts to the student.

Procedures: There are 6 steps to this project, once you are in a group you will need to pick a group leader. This leader then will need to delegate the work among the rest of the group members. The steps are as follows:

Pick one of the three products you wish to work with.

Research the company, is it an American company, Foreign, family owned, publically traded, where and when was the company founded, etc.

Research the product, how and when did this product come to be?

What are the demographics for this product and can you as a successful group creates a slogan to sell outside of the demographic?

Which medium will work best for reaching your demographic (TV, Radio, Print, Web)

Create a working ad campaign and slogan for your product. You may not use any previous ads associated with this product.
Tools: You will be using several online tools to complete this assignment. The first should be Skype, in order to chat and discuss the assignment as well as chose your leader and assign who will do what. Next you will need to create a Google Doc in order to compile the research data. After the doc has been created, you will need to invite the instructor. The next step would be to create your ad in the Google Doc and explain where and how the ad will be used. The final step will be an individual assessment of how well your group worked together. This will be carried out by the individual students answering a survey that I will e-mail to each of you. The survey will be between me and each student personally, I will not share the answers given with any of the other students so please be honest.

If this assignment were to be actually given in my class, the students would finish the project by presenting their ad campaign to the class using centra. However that is not part of this assignment.
