OTLc Course Resources

The Online Teaching and Learning Certificate (OTLc) program has 5 exciting courses

that introduce you to everything from online learning communities to assessment and evaluation

in the online environment. During the the program, our group will find and create numerous

resources related to online teaching and learning. Some of those resources will be very general,

but others will be specific to a particular course in the program. This page is like the table of contents

CEL460/560: Fostering Online Learning Communities                                   

How does an online community act?  What are the characteristics of a strong online community? 

What purpose does a community serve in a learning situation? How does an online community form

and is there anything we can do to help it form more quickly?  What can we do to improve our

CEL470/570: Designing & Organizing Online Learning Environments         

How should you structure an online environment such that it supports learning? How do you

organize all that content, both digital and paper, so that it's easy to find and understand? How can

you develop your syllabus and schedule so that it is effective and reduces administrative burden?

CEL480/580: Tools & Techniques for Online Learning                                  

Teaching online requires technology.  The trick is to find the right technology to support the

teaching strategies you want to use for your particular content. How do you find those tools? How

do you decide which tools too use? What special techniques do you need to apply to use the tool

effectively?  How will your students be able to access the tools? The answer to these and many

CEL490/590: Assessment & Evaluation Online                                              

Assessment and evaluation are an important part of any educational program. However, there are

often special considerations that need to be taken into account when asessing and evaluating

online.  What are some of those considerations? How do you address them? How can technology

support your efforts? What do you do with the data once you have it?  Many of the answers to
